A protest in Patna, Bihar, turned violent following the deaths of a brother and sister, whose bodies were found inside a car. The demonstration took place on Atal Path, where protesters damaged several vehicles and set others ablaze. Police were also reportedly targeted with stones. Several people were injured during the clashes as authorities work to control the situation.
The bodies of the siblings were discovered on August 15th in a car within the Indrapuri area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Patliputra police station in Patna. The vehicle was parked about 200 meters from their residence. The children had gone to coaching, and when they didn’t return, their family began searching. The bodies were found in the car near an empty plot. Police have recovered the bodies and sent them for a post-mortem.
Police examined CCTV footage from the area but found no conclusive proof. The children’s father, Ganesh Kumar, and other family members have accused the coaching teacher of involvement in the deaths, though police cleared the teacher of any wrongdoing. The police investigation concluded that the children were returning safely from their coaching classes.
The police are considering that the deaths may have been accidental. The investigation is ongoing. The family has alleged that the children were put in the car as part of a conspiracy and that they were murdered. The family had protested four days prior and gathered on Monday evening, accusing the police of negligence.
According to the SSP of Patna, Kartikeya K. Sharma, the investigation is ongoing regarding the incident. He stated that, so far, there is no indication of homicide. The family has been updated on the situation, and actions will be taken against those who took the law into their own hands. Individuals involved in the violence have been identified, and an FIR will be filed. Sharma said such protests and violent behavior are unacceptable, and there are established forums for expressing grievances. He added that without evidence of murder, action cannot be taken. He believes that the events seemed pre-planned, resulting in injuries and the burning of two vehicles.
