The Patna Police have successfully cracked the case involving the threat made to Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha, purportedly in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The police have apprehended the individual responsible for issuing the threat. This arrest follows an operation by the Patna Police in response to a death threat made against the Rajya Sabha MP and RLM leader. The accused, identified as Rakesh Kumar from Bihar’s Siwan district, was taken into custody. The mobile phone used to deliver the threats was also recovered by the police.
Rakesh Kumar, during police questioning, admitted to being a member of Upendra Kushwaha’s political party. He stated that his actions were driven by his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership. Rakesh had contacted Kushwaha, falsely claiming association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and threatened to assassinate him within ten days, causing considerable unease in political circles. The incident was brought to light by Upendra Kushwaha himself on X.
Kartikeya Sharma, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna, stated that an immediate investigation was launched following the threatening calls and messages. The accused’s mobile number was traced through technical surveillance, leading to his eventual arrest. The police are also investigating any potential links the accused may have with organized crime. MP Upendra Kushwaha had shared details of the threat on social media, urging security agencies to take action. He underscored that while dissent and criticism are valid in a democracy, criminal threats are unacceptable and condemnable.
