The upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar are stirring up political tensions, with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll at the center of the latest dispute. Allegations of inaccuracies, including deceased individuals on the list and missing names, have surfaced. Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD’s CM candidate, has claimed his name is missing from the draft voter list, questioning his eligibility to participate in the election. He filled out the enumeration form. Janata Dal (United) has responded by accusing Yadav of misleading the public. Yadav stated in a press conference that his name was not listed, even when using his EPIC number. The Patna district administration clarified that his name is present, but the polling details had been updated. Yadav then raised concerns about the extent of changes to other voters’ information. JDU’s Neeraj Kumar called Yadav a ‘political fraud.’ The Election Commission refuted the claim, asserting that Yadav’s name is included in the electoral roll. The situation has heightened political tensions. Bihar’s draft electoral roll has been released, with a limited number of supporting documents received. The SIR process is underway, permitting objections to discrepancies. The previous intensive revision took place in 2003.
