As Bihar gears up for assembly elections, the recent India Bloc (Mahagathbandhan) meeting has stirred political discussions. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), a key ally in Jharkhand’s ruling coalition, was notably absent, raising questions about the unity of the alliance.
The JMM has responded with a firm stance. Supriyo Bhattacharya, JMM Central General Secretary, asserted that they wouldn’t seek inclusion in any meeting. He further confirmed their determination to participate in the Bihar elections.
Bhattacharya highlighted the importance of the RJD and Congress acknowledging the JMM’s commitment, referencing their support for the RJD when it had only one MLA. He indicated that if the JMM maintained alliance principles in Jharkhand, the RJD should do the same in Bihar.
The RJD, through Kailash Yadav, responded that the meeting was for parties with similar ideologies and active in Bihar. The RJD stated that the top leadership will consider the JMM’s role at the right time. Yadav criticized the JMM’s approach, acknowledging their ambition to broaden their reach nationally. The RJD questioned the JMM’s organizational strength in Bihar.
The RJD leader urged the JMM to be patient. He said they could compete for all seats in Bihar if they chose and emphasized the strong positions of both parties. He also mentioned that seat-sharing in the Mahagathbandhan would be considered, but patience was necessary.
The BJP, through CP Singh, added to the conversation, implying the JMM’s seat demands might not be met. JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said they aim to contest in 16 seats, including Chakai, Katoria, Thakurganj, Kochadhaman, Raniganj, Banmankhi, Rupauli, Dhamdaha, Purnea, Jhajha, Chhatapur, Sonbarsa, Ramnagar, Jamalpur, Tarapur, and Manihari.
