The path to developing six airports in Bihar has been cleared with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bihar government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Monday in New Delhi. The Chief Secretary, Amrit Lal Meena, oversaw the signing at Bihar Niwas. Under the agreement, five airports owned by the Bihar government—Birpur, Valmikinagar, Saharsa, Madhubani, and Munger—and the AAI-owned Muzaffarpur airport will undergo development as part of the Indian government’s UDAN scheme. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has sanctioned ₹25 crore for each airport. A Pre-Feasibility Study preceded the MoU, and the Bihar Cabinet approved the project before the agreement was finalized. The MoU was signed by AAI’s Executive Director, Anami Pandey, and the Director of Civil Aviation, Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Devre, representing the Bihar government. Several senior officials from both sides were present at the event. This initiative promises to significantly improve regional air connectivity and foster economic and social advancement across Bihar, especially in its more distant regions.
