Recent events have thrust RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav into the spotlight. Following his six-year expulsion from the party by his father, Lalu Yadav, Tej Pratap is alleging that he is the target of political machinations. He believes this is due to the perception that he embodies his father’s legacy and is seen as the future leader of the party.
In an interview, Tej Pratap expressed his support for his brother, Tejashwi Yadav, to become the Chief Minister of Bihar after the upcoming elections. He indicated his preference for a kingmaker role rather than seeking high office.
Tej Pratap’s expulsion from the RJD stemmed from a controversial post on X. He shared a photograph and stated he was with a woman named Anushka Yadav and that they had a 12-year relationship. The post was later removed, and Tej Pratap claimed his account was hacked. Nevertheless, Lalu Yadav proceeded to expel him.
Explaining why he believes he is targeted, Tej Pratap said, “People target me because they recognize me as the next Lalu Yadav. I share his voice, raw style, and connection to the ground.” He also questioned whether his controversies had negatively impacted the RJD, implying that he was being unfairly singled out.
On the matter of his expulsion, Tej Pratap expressed disappointment and suggested a conspiracy. He emphasized his respect for his parents, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi, describing them as akin to God. He stated, “My mother always worries about me. As her elder son, I know she holds me very close to her heart. I don’t want to go into what the circumstances were or were not because it is purely political.”
Concerning his relationship with Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap acknowledged some strain, but stated he is working to maintain harmony. He emphasized the importance of family bonds, saying, “I am not interested in breaking relationships. I don’t want to spoil relationships with anyone. I always try to maintain relationships. When you are the elder brother, you have to fulfill the responsibilities of the elder brother.”
Regarding Tejashwi Yadav’s potential as Chief Minister, Tej Pratap stated, “Tejashwi should become the Chief Minister; he has my full support. I want to play the role of a kingmaker. Some people don’t like that I am connected to the ground; I raise issues that matter to the people without fear. This is what my father used to do, and this is what I, his son, should also do. People in the villages like people connected to the ground.”
