With Bihar’s political landscape heating up ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Tej Pratap Yadav has broken away from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to establish a new political party. The party, named ‘Janshakti Janata Dal,’ was taken to the Election Commission on August 17th for registration.
Tej Pratap Yadav, accompanied by the president and secretary of the new party, met with the Chief Electoral Officer to submit necessary documents. The party was formed in 2020, with a close associate of Tej Pratap contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under the ‘Janshakti Janata Dal’ banner, using the flute as their symbol.
Tej Pratap’s visit to the Election Commission came after the Commission issued notices to state parties to update their registration details. This has fueled discussion about Tej Pratap taking charge of the Janshakti Janata Dal.
The Election Commission recognized the Janshakti Janata Dal on Monday. Tej Pratap met with the Chief Electoral Officer for approximately 30 minutes and registered the party under his name. He later informed the media that his meeting with the Election Officer concerned the issue of voter name deletions in the Mahua assembly constituency.
Tej Pratap also commented on the ‘Vot Adhikar Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar, stating that the initiative was not beneficial. He emphasized the importance of focusing on matters such as employment and education, rather than the issues they are currently highlighting.
Tej Pratap’s actions follow his expulsion from the RJD for six years due to reports of his relationship with Anushka Yadav. His father, Lalu Yadav, the RJD leader, made the decision. Tej Pratap announced his intention to run as an independent candidate from the Mahua seat last month.
