The Bihar Cabinet has endorsed the Bihar Renewable Energy Policy–2025 to advance clean energy goals and foster energy self-reliance. This policy sets the stage for widespread adoption of renewable energy technologies, aiming to position Bihar as a leader in India’s green energy sector. Effective for the next five years, the policy replaces the 2017 framework, emphasizing the expansion of solar, wind, biomass, green hydrogen, geothermal, pumped storage, and battery storage projects. The targets include the development of 23,968 MW of renewable energy capacity and 6.1 GWh of energy storage. The policy is also designed to support India’s broader commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2070 and meeting Renewable Purchase Obligation targets set by the Central Electricity Authority. The policy offers multiple benefits for investors, including exemptions on stamp duty, land conversion charges, and other duties. Key features such as open access, energy banking, green tariff options, and single-window clearances are included to encourage private investment. The policy supports the development of Renewable Energy Zones, hybrid energy parks and campus-based projects, with participation from registered developers, agencies and private companies. This initiative represents a crucial step in Bihar’s journey toward sustainable growth and economic progress.
