
A devastating accident at the Ennore Thermal Power construction site in Chennai claimed the lives of nine people when a steel arch under construction collapsed on Tuesday. Reports indicate that more than ten other workers were seriously hurt in the incident. The injured were quickly transported to Stanley Government Hospital in North Chennai. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation by authorities. Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of TANGEDCO, stated that the workers were from Assam and nearby areas. In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his sympathies to the affected families and announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of the collapse.
