The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has taken a major step in the Rs 2100 crore Chhattisgarh liquor scam by submitting a charge sheet in court. The alleged scam involves the sale of liquor using counterfeit holograms during the previous Congress government. Twenty-eight excise officials, including the spouse of a female IAS officer, have been summoned to appear in court. The EOW and ACB conducted extensive investigations and questioning before preparing the charge sheet. The officials may be offered an opportunity to apply for bail. The approval for prosecution was given on May 20, after the excise department sent the proposal to the law department on April 18. The final approval from Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has been received, and a supplementary charge sheet will be filed. The judicial process moves forward with the court now deciding the next steps. Political reactions are expected.
