A team of researchers in Chhattisgarh has identified a unique rice variety from the Bastar region that could revolutionize cancer treatment. Named ‘Sanjeevani,’ this rice has shown the potential to destroy cancer cells. The Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, in conjunction with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, conducted research revealing that this rice contains 213 biochemicals, with seven exhibiting cancer-fighting capabilities. Preliminary tests on mice yielded positive outcomes, and the Central Drug Research Institute has validated the medicinal properties. Human trials are planned at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. These findings may offer a new avenue in the fight against cancer, utilizing the natural power of ‘Sanjeevani’ rice to activate antioxidants and eliminate damaged cells. The rice could be available for medicinal use in the coming years.
