The Urban Development and Housing Department in Bihar is undertaking a project to create a digital record of roads in urban areas, with a deadline of August 20, 2025, for all municipal bodies to submit detailed road mapping reports. The innovative aspect of this initiative is the use of color-coding, where different colors represent different construction agencies. This will aid in easy identification and improve urban planning. National highways will be red, state highways green, Rural Works Department roads black, municipal roads yellow, district council roads blue-pink, Local Area Engineering Organization roads blue, and roads by other departments purple. This color-coded system aims to improve the understanding and management of the road network, making it more transparent. The required information includes road length, width, construction date, estimated cost, and current condition. This digital archive will support road maintenance and promote better urban planning. The directive has been distributed to key officials to facilitate quick action. This initiative coincides with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s digital communication with a large number of electricity consumers on August 12, 2025, under the electricity assistance scheme, which provides free electricity and saves money for households. The Urban Development Department’s directive is a major step in organizing Bihar’s urban road network. This initiative will lead to better road management, improved maintenance, and more transparent planning for new projects. It is designed to contribute towards making Bihar a digital and developed state.
