Scientists in Chhattisgarh have made a significant breakthrough in cancer research. Research at the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in Raipur has focused on a rare rice variant named Sanjeevani. This rice, found in Bastar, shows the potential to eliminate cancer cells. Studies conducted in partnership with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, revealed remarkable outcomes, and the Central Drug Research Institute has also confirmed its cancer-fighting properties. Human trials are scheduled at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital to assess the effectiveness of the rice. Sanjeevani rice contains 213 biochemicals, with seven compounds known to combat cancer. It activates Nrf2, which helps protect against the cellular damage that leads to cancer. Medicinal use of the rice is expected within a few years. This innovative discovery could significantly impact the treatment of cancer. The medicinal potential of the rice was initially recognized by Dr. R.H. Richharia in 1974.
