In Surguja, Chhattisgarh, a married man’s attempt to meet his married girlfriend under the cover of darkness led to a chain of events, including a physical confrontation and a controversial decision by a village panchayat.
The incident unfolded in the Lakhanpur police station area. The man, Shubham Rajwade, a resident of Telaikachhar village, was caught by the woman’s family in Puhputra, where she now lives after her marriage. The family members caught the couple, bound them, and subjected them to physical violence. Subsequently, a village panchayat was convened, resulting in an unusual ruling.
Information reveals that Shubham had gone to see his girlfriend on Monday night. The woman’s husband was away, but other family members were present and became aware of the meeting. The couple was caught red-handed and restrained. Before the panchayat meeting, they were physically assaulted. The police were also informed about the incident.
The panchayat convened to resolve the issue. It was revealed that the couple had been romantically involved before their respective marriages. Although they did not marry each other, they maintained contact and met from time to time. Ultimately, the panchayat ruled that the woman should be handed over to her lover, and she was allowed to leave with him. The police confirmed that no formal complaint was filed by either party, hence no FIR was initiated.
