A major controversy erupted in the Chhattisgarh state assembly concerning the availability of fertilizers and seeds. Congress MLAs initiated an adjournment motion to address the matter. During the discussion, the Leader of Opposition, Dr. Charandas Mahant, questioned the government’s handling of fertilizer distribution, pointing out the alleged scarcity and inflated prices. He claimed the government’s policies were hurting farmers.
Former CM Bhupesh Baghel and former minister Umesh Patel joined the debate, emphasizing the need for urgent action to address the crisis. However, the Agriculture Minister, Ram Vichar Netam, dismissed the opposition’s claims, stating that there was no shortage of fertilizers and seeds. This response triggered an uproar, with Congress MLAs entering the well of the House. This action led to the suspension of 23 MLAs, disrupting the assembly proceedings.
