The Election Commission has released the draft electoral rolls for Chhattisgarh following a comprehensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR). This crucial update aims to create a more accurate and inclusive voter registry by removing over 27 lakh names that were deemed ineligible. The process adhered to strict transparency protocols at every step, ensuring public trust in the electoral system.
Key details from the draft rolls reveal that 6,42,234 deceased voters have been purged from the list. Additionally, 19,13,540 electors who are no longer residing at their registered addresses or have shifted have been removed. The exercise also identified and deleted 1,79,043 individuals registered at multiple locations, reinforcing the ‘one person, one vote’ principle.
The SIR initiative garnered significant participation, with nearly 1.85 crore electors submitting their verification forms. This success is a testament to the dedicated efforts of election machinery across the state, involving a vast network of officials and over 30,000 volunteers. The active involvement of political parties through their appointed Booth Level Agents also contributed to the comprehensive revision. Citizens can now access the draft electoral rolls online to check their names and verify their details on the Chief Electoral Officer’s official portal.
