The state of Chhattisgarh is set to witness a significant boost in infrastructure and development, with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai presiding over the Swachhta Sangam-2025 in Bilaspur on August 12, 2025. The event will recognize and honor sanitation workers (‘Swachhta Didis’) for their vital role in bringing national accolades to Chhattisgarh. Additionally, urban bodies that have excelled in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 will also be acknowledged.
The Swachhta Sangam will bring together key figures from urban governance, including mayors, chairpersons, health department representatives, heads of municipalities and town councils, municipal commissioners, chief municipal officers, senior engineers from urban bodies, and nodal officers of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). A total of nine thousand sanitation workers are expected to attend.
Central to the Swachhta Sangam is the aim to create cleaner and more attractive cities. According to Dr. Basavaraju S., Secretary of the Urban Administration and Development Department, the event underscores the importance of recognizing the contributions of sanitation workers. Furthermore, it will celebrate the achievements of seven urban bodies that demonstrated exceptional performance in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. More than 30 additional urban bodies that achieved top rankings at the divisional level will also be commended.
A state-level competition will be launched during the Swachhta Sangam to promote higher standards of sanitation and urban beautification across urban bodies. This competition is designed to strengthen urban cleanliness initiatives, improve administrative efficiency through good governance, and foster urban beautification projects. This will contribute to enhancing the quality of life for citizens and will motivate local leaders, officials, and residents to enhance their abilities in the areas of sanitation and urban beautification.
A GIS-based Property Tax Live Portal will be unveiled to streamline online property tax payments for three municipal corporations—Birgaon, Bhilai-Charoda, and Dhamtari—and 43 municipalities. This initiative represents a step towards modernizing local self-governance and providing convenient, home-based services to citizens, thereby accelerating tax collection.
