The Chhattisgarh government has introduced a new initiative allowing vehicle owners to reuse their old vehicle’s preferred or choice registration numbers on new vehicles. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held at the Mahanadi Bhawan, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
Transport Secretary S. Prakash and Transport Commissioner D. Ravi Shankar have stated that all technical preparations for this system are complete. Those whose old vehicle registrations are officially cancelled can now use the same number on a new vehicle of the same type, or on vehicles with an NOC from other states.
To utilize this service, vehicle owners must make the required payment online. The facility will be available for both regular and non-fancy numbers. The scheme is only applicable to new vehicles or vehicles transferred from other states, and not to vehicles already registered in Chhattisgarh.
This decision is significant because it will allow residents to keep their preferred vehicle numbers, which could have sentimental or professional value. It also intends to enhance the transparency and technological efficiency of the transport department. This will help vehicle owners and ease the problems related to number reservations across the state.
