Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that democracy fighters in the state will receive state honors at their funerals. In addition to this, their families will be granted ₹25,000 in financial aid. This decision was revealed during the Emergency Remembrance Day event at the CM House. The gathering was attended by Cabinet ministers, MLAs, and MPs. Democracy fighters were also felicitated at the event. Chief Minister Sai criticized the previous Congress government for discontinuing the welfare schemes for democracy fighters and withholding financial assistance over the past five years. The current government plans to clear the pending dues. The Chief Minister called the Emergency a dark period in India’s democratic history, emphasizing the need for awareness among all generations. He mentioned his family’s experience, including his grand uncle’s 19-month imprisonment, and the devastation he observed in many families due to arrests of earning members. Chief Minister Sai stated that it is the government’s moral responsibility to support democracy fighters, reiterating the commitment to protect their dignity and rights. The move is seen as a true tribute to the sacrifices of those who fought to protect democracy.
