Chhattisgarh is set for a major development boost as Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai prepares to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects exceeding Rs 260 crore. This significant event is scheduled to take place at the Swachhta Sangam-2025 in Bilaspur district on August 12, 2025.
During the Swachhta Sangam, the Chief Minister will honor sanitation workers, recognizing their crucial contributions to cleanliness and for bringing national recognition to Chhattisgarh. Outstanding urban bodies that have demonstrated exemplary performance in the Swachh Survekshan-2024-25 will also be acknowledged.
The Swachhta Sangam will bring together key stakeholders including mayors, chairpersons, health department representatives, presidents, vice-presidents, municipal commissioners, chief municipal officers, senior engineers from urban bodies, and nodal officers from the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), with a large gathering of nine thousand sanitation workers.
The primary objective of the event is to promote cleanliness and beautification in urban areas. Secretary Dr. Basavaraju S. from the Department of Urban Administration and Development emphasized the importance of recognizing the efforts of sanitation workers. The ceremony will celebrate seven top-performing urban bodies in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, with awards presented by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi. Furthermore, over 30 urban bodies that have excelled at the division level will be honored.
In an effort to elevate urban cleanliness standards, a state-level competition will be launched during the Swachhta Sangam. This initiative is aimed at strengthening urban sanitation, enhancing good governance, and encouraging urban beautification. The competition will inspire local authorities, officials, and citizens to improve urban cleanliness and beautification efforts, creating a more attractive environment and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The event will also witness the launch of a GIS-based property tax live portal for online property tax payments across three municipal corporations—Birgaon, Bhilai-Charoda, and Dhamtari—and 43 municipalities. This development marks a substantial advancement in local governance, providing citizens with convenient access to services and improving the speed of tax collection.
Chief Minister Sai will oversee the inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies for a range of development projects. The projects encompass 24 construction and development works, valued at over Rs 63.57 crore, and the foundation laying for 25 additional projects, with a combined cost exceeding Rs 197 crore, all within the Bilaspur district. Beneficiaries of various schemes will receive essential materials and checks during the event.
Specific projects include the inauguration of a commercial complex in Nutan Chowk, an STP in Koni, a girls’ hostel for the Government Engineering College, road improvements, and a two-lane road. The announcement includes the launch of a water supply project under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which will benefit 11 villages.
Additional projects include the foundation laying for an education hub, roads, and an elevated path as part of the Chief Minister’s Urban Upliftment Scheme. The project also covers construction on the Arpa River, and the construction of a 2.5 km long road and a culvert on the Sarar Nala, as well as various projects under the Municipal Corporation, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Public Works Department, Rural Engineering Service, and Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
