In a significant operation against Naxalism, 23 Naxals surrendered in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Friday. These individuals had a combined bounty of ₹1.18 crore. The surrendering group included 8 hardcore Naxals associated with the PLGA battalion, and others active in various Naxal organizations. The group comprised 1 DVCM, 6 PPCMs, 4 ACMs, and 12 party members. Among them were 9 women and 14 men, including 3 Naxal couples. The reasons cited for the surrender were the state government’s “Chhattisgarh Naxalite Surrender Rehabilitation Policy” and the “Niyad Nella Nar” scheme. The establishment of security camps in remote areas and increased pressure from the police also played a role. Details of the declared bounties include ₹8 lakh on 11 Naxals, ₹5 lakh on 4 Naxals, ₹3 lakh on 1 Naxal, and ₹1 lakh on 7 Naxals. This surrender is seen as a major accomplishment for the Chhattisgarh government’s anti-Naxal efforts and is expected to encourage other Naxals to lay down their arms.
