
Chief Minister Shri Sai directs strict action on tax evasion in GST department review meeting
*Historic increase in GST collection in Chhattisgarh: Highest in the country with an 18% growth rate*
Raipur, July 2, 2025/Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today held a review meeting of the Commercial Tax (GST) Department at Mahanadi Bhawan located in the Ministry. He received detailed information about the works and revenue collection of the department and directed to work on measures to increase tax collection.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the amount of tax is used in the development works of the country and the state, so everyone should pay tax honestly. Shri Sai said that strict action should be taken against those who steal tax (GST) and recovery of tax should be ensured from them. During the meeting, the officers informed that in the financial year 2024-25, the state received a total tax revenue of Rs 23,448 crore from GST and VAT, which is 38% of the total tax revenue of the state. Chhattisgarh has achieved an 18% GST growth rate, which is the highest in the country.
In the meeting, Finance and Commercial Tax (GST) Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary shared departmental information. Chief Minister Shri Sai appreciated the efforts made by the department for GST collection and said that continuous efforts should be made to increase collection in accordance with the rules in future as well. He also discussed in detail with the departmental officers the cases of tax evasion and measures to deal with them.
Chief Minister Shri Sai directed strict action against those who take undue advantage by using fake bills, double bookkeeping system and wrong tax rates. He praised the innovative initiatives of the department and said that the average time limit for GST registration has been reduced from 13 days to 2 days.
In the meeting, the officers informed about the major actions taken by the GST department recently and the recovery of the amount of tax theft. It was informed in the meeting that the tax revenue of the government is continuously increasing due to the actions taken by the department.
It is noteworthy that GST offices have been established in all 33 districts of the state, due to which the work of tax collection and GST related services is being done with transparency and in a time-bound manner.
Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Mukesh Kumar Bansal, Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Rahul Bhagat and Commissioner Commercial Tax Shri Pushpendra Meena along with senior officers were present in the meeting.
