An accidental explosion at a coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh region has left three workers injured, including two women. The incident took place at SECL’s Chirmiri open cast mine on Monday afternoon. Sources reveal that the blast happened while workers were in the process of setting up explosives for a planned detonation. A group of approximately seven to eight individuals was working on the coal bed when the explosion occurred without warning. The resulting blast caused fragments to scatter, injuring the workers and damaging some equipment. The injured were swiftly evacuated to the SECL hospital in Kurasia for medical attention. They are reported to have sustained minor injuries and are recuperating well. Initial findings suggest a technical malfunction as a probable cause for the untimely explosion. An official inquiry has commenced to thoroughly investigate the incident, looking into all possible factors from equipment failure to procedural errors. Site operations have been temporarily halted to ensure comprehensive safety assessments and to prevent any recurrence of such dangerous events.
