A controversy has erupted in Raipur over the proposed construction of an MLA colony in Nakti village, with Brijmohan Agrawal, the local MP, leading the opposition. He has appealed to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to immediately halt the project, citing concerns about the displacement of vulnerable families. The land in question, measuring 15.4790 hectares (Khasra number 460), is currently home to more than 80 impoverished families, many of whom have received housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Government buildings, including community halls, are also located on the site. Agrawal’s primary concern is that the proposed construction would displace these families, who have lived on the land for years and consider it a common resource. He pointed out that the local Gram Sabha and Panchayat have also voiced their opposition to the project. Agrawal has suggested alternative locations for the MLA colony and has urged the government to prioritize the welfare of the existing residents. Former MLA Devjibhai Patel also presented a memorandum to Agrawal, detailing the struggles of the villagers, most of whom live below the poverty line and depend on the land for their survival. Agrawal has urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action and maintain the current situation. The situation has brought the conflict between development and displacement into sharp focus. Agrawal believes that development must not come at the expense of the poor. The intervention has raised hopes among the villagers, who are awaiting the government’s decision.
