Raigarh District Jail is preparing for the Sharadiya Navratri festival, with 47 inmates set to observe fasts. These inmates comprise 40 men and 7 women who have committed to fasting. According to the Jail Superintendent, G.S. Shauri, the jail administration has organized special measures to accommodate the religious observances. The jail, which houses 800 inmates, will see 47 participate in fasting. The administration is providing for the needs of the inmates, recognizing their faith. Thirty inmates will observe the fast for the entire nine days of Navratri, while the remaining seventeen will fast on specific days. To facilitate their religious practices, separate barracks have been set aside. Furthermore, the inmates’ diet during the fast will consist of fruits instead of regular meals. The jail is also providing the necessary materials and instruments for worship, including the kalash sthapana and musical instruments for devotional music. The jail premises have been maintained with cleanliness and tranquility to enhance the inmates’ Navratri experience. The jail authorities hope this initiative not only respects the inmates’ religious sentiments but also supports their rehabilitation. The superintendent noted that these religious activities encourage positive thought and self-reflection among the inmates.
