A man has been granted a divorce by the High Court following the court’s finding that his wife’s behavior constituted mental cruelty. The High Court cited the wife’s actions, including taunting her husband for being unemployed and making unreasonable demands, as evidence of such cruelty. The court’s decision overturned a previous ruling by the Family Court, which had initially denied the husband’s divorce petition. The husband presented evidence indicating that the wife’s demeanor changed after she obtained a PhD and secured a principal position. This included instances of disrespect, frequent arguments, and making the husband feel belittled, especially during the economic hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic. The court determined that these actions, along with the wife’s abandonment of her son and husband, were grounds for divorce under the law.
