The Election Commission of India (ECI) is planning to extend the special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists nationwide after its implementation in Bihar. The commission has instructed all states to prepare for this undertaking, which is slated to begin next month, in August. Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) in the states have received instructions to be ready for the voter list revision. Bihar is currently holding elections this year, and assembly elections are scheduled for 2026 in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
