Health officials in Chhattisgarh are on alert following the first death in the state linked to the new COVID-19 variant. Sonraj Golchha, an 86-year-old resident of Rajnandgaon, passed away after contracting the virus. He was being treated at a private hospital in Raipur, where he tested positive for COVID-19. Golchha had a history of hypertension and high blood sugar. His death occurred on Saturday. The rise in cases of the new variant across the country has prompted health officials to be vigilant. India recorded 11 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. Chhattisgarh now has 51 active cases. Health officials are taking samples from the family and contacts of the deceased.
