A businessman in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, fabricated a robbery story after losing money in gambling. The initial report indicated that unknown individuals had stolen 86 kilograms of silver jewelry, valued at 1.29 crore rupees, from the businessman’s home. The businessman claimed the thieves had incapacitated him and taken the DVR from the CCTV cameras. Police investigation revealed that the entire incident was a deception.
The case unfolded in the Sadar Bazaar area, under the City Kotwali police station. During questioning, the businessman, Rahul Goyal, admitted that his claims were untrue. He confessed to losing a substantial amount of money on online gambling platforms. Goyal worked as a broker in the silver trade, originating from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. He would take orders for silver, arrange for its supply, and earn commissions. Due to his reliability, companies would provide him silver on credit.
After incurring significant gambling losses, Goyal concocted a false narrative to evade payment for the company’s silver and recoup his losses. He filed a false FIR, falsely stating that he was from Aligarh and owned a company called Shiva Traders in Raipur. He presented himself as a CFA, bringing silver jewelry to Raipur to sell to other businesses.
In his fabricated FIR, Goyal stated he earned a commission of 50 rupees per piece of silver sold. He brought 200 kg of silver to Raipur for Diwali. He returned 100 kg to Agra and sold 14 kg. He claimed that 86 kg of silver remained. He alleged that on Friday night, after eating dinner, he went to sleep. Around 3 am, someone knocked on his door. When he opened it, he saw two masked individuals. One pointed a gun, while the other attacked him with a knife and covered his mouth with a handkerchief. He then lost consciousness.
He awoke at 10 am the following day, finding his hands and feet tied with rope. He managed to free himself and exit the apartment. He alleged that 86 kg of silver had been stolen and that the DVR was also taken.
