Two horses in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, were euthanized because they were infected with glanders. The Sanjal breed horses received lethal injections from veterinary professionals. They were buried in Bhittikla. Glanders is a contagious and often fatal disease affecting equines and, potentially, humans. A local individual, who owned the horses used for wedding events, had the animals tested after one displayed symptoms of the disease. While initial tests were inconsistent, a subsequent test confirmed that both horses were infected. The local administration has issued a ban on horse-related animals in the area for three months and is conducting contact tracing to prevent further spread of the disease.
