The Education Department has taken disciplinary action, suspending two teachers from Government Secondary School Mahuda in the Durg district. Prafulla Sahu and Seema Sharma were suspended due to serious allegations of misconduct, including negligence and irresponsible behavior. The department’s action followed an investigation into the teachers’ conduct. The investigation began after a complaint from a teacher, Shruti Mishra. Mishra alleged that Prafulla Sahu had used a student’s phone during an exam to make videos and take pictures. Additionally, Sahu was accused of making inappropriate comments during the prayer assembly and playing the harmonium in class, actions that disrupted the school’s environment. A two-member investigative committee was formed to look into the matter. The committee confirmed that Prafulla Sahu admitted to the accusations. It was also revealed that he and Seema Sharma would spend time together in a separate room, away from other staff, which was seen as creating a negative atmosphere within the school. Seema Sharma’s role as the in-charge of the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) program also came under scrutiny. She was accused of not providing sufficient and nutritious meals to the students, as per the required menu. The investigation found that the teachers’ actions violated the Chhattisgarh Civil Services Conduct Rules of 1965, constituting serious misconduct. As a result, the Education Department suspended both teachers under the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules of 1966. During their suspension, Prafulla Sahu will report to the Block Education Officer, Gunderdehi, Balod district, and Seema Sharma will report to the Principal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Dhamdha, Durg district. Both teachers will receive a living allowance during their suspension. The Education Department emphasized its commitment to maintaining a disciplined environment, stating that any instances of negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated, as schools are vital for the education and development of children.
