The State GST Department in Chhattisgarh has initiated a large-scale crackdown, conducting raids in Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Raigarh, and Jagdalpur. The operation targeted 25 locations associated with businesses involved in gutkha, clothing, transportation, footwear, and dry fruit trading.
The surprise raids caused immediate disruption at many sites. Preliminary findings indicate that several firms declared large turnovers but significantly underpaid or completely evaded taxes. Document scrutiny revealed instances of bogus billing and fraudulent claims for input tax credit.
TL Dhruv, the State GST Special Commissioner, emphasized that the department would not tolerate tax evasion and will take stringent action. Legal proceedings and substantial penalties are being prepared. Notices have been issued to all firm operators following the confirmation of tax evasion amounting to approximately ₹10 crore.
During the raids, authorities found that some businesses were operating without accounting software or proper transaction records, using unofficial bills and forged documentation.
