The Forest Department has issued a high alert in 13 villages within a district of Chhattisgarh due to the renewed threat posed by elephants. Villagers have been advised to stay indoors. The alert follows the sighting of elephants in the region’s forests, causing considerable concern among locals, particularly farmers who are actively engaged in agricultural work during the monsoon season.
According to forest officials, a herd of elephants has been roaming the forests of Forest Development Corporation compartments 155, 156, 126, and 127 for the past three days. The Forest Department is actively monitoring the elephants’ activities.
The villages under alert include: Chhatal, Talajhar, Murumdih, Daldali, Keshaldih, Sukulbay, Nandbaru, Amloor, Khirsali, Bandora, Raymuda, Jhakhmuda, Achanakpur, and Fuseradih. The Forest Department has urged the villagers not to go into the forests, especially during the morning and evening.
The presence of the elephants is a major concern for farmers, as the current period is crucial for planting and preparing fields. The Forest Department’s warning has made villagers fearful of going to their fields.
