A Naxalite plot in Bijapur district was thwarted by the alertness of security forces. On Saturday, during a demining operation along the Gorna-Mankeli route, security forces successfully located and disarmed a potent command IED, which weighed 10 kilograms.
This incident took place following the brutal murder of a young man by Naxalites in the same village on Friday, which had instilled fear throughout the region. The next day, the Naxalites attempted to target the security forces by planting explosives on the road, but this plot was unsuccessful.
The demining operation involved a joint effort by DRG Bijapur, the Bijapur Police Station, and a BDS team. During the search, soldiers observed an electric wire on the side of the road. The area was promptly cordoned off, and an intensive search was undertaken.
The subsequent search uncovered the IED, which was hidden inside a steel tiffin box. This explosive weighed approximately 10 kilograms and was connected to an electrical wire spanning approximately 70 to 80 meters. The BDS team, demonstrating expertise and care, safely disarmed the explosive. A video of the explosive’s destruction has been released.
Officials have confirmed that the Naxalites’ plan was designed to harm both security personnel and local civilians. The quick response by the security forces prevented a major incident and undermined the Naxalites’ intentions.
