Dhirendra Shastri, the prominent Bageshwar Dham spiritual leader, has publicly addressed the controversy surrounding his chartered flight to Chhattisgarh. His arrival in Bhilai, Durg district, for a religious event on December 25, allegedly via a government aircraft, drew sharp criticism from the Congress. The opposition party accused the ruling BJP government in Chhattisgarh of financial impropriety and misuse of state resources for personal religious functions.
During a religious discourse, Shastri, with state minister Guru Khushwant Saheb present, addressed the allegations. He emphasized his identity as an Indian citizen, asserting that he should not be subjected to such scrutiny merely for his mode of travel. Shastri suggested that the individuals responsible for arranging his transportation should be the focus of any inquiries.
Shastri then broadened his critique, questioning the selective outrage directed at him. He drew a stark comparison between his situation and that of individuals involved in anti-national activities or corruption, who he claimed face no such impediments. He highlighted his work in promoting Sanatan Dharma, supporting crucial initiatives like cancer hospitals and community weddings for the less fortunate, and combating drug abuse, arguing that such positive contributions should not be overshadowed by questions about his air travel. Shastri expressed his commitment to maintaining decorum and avoiding further escalation, thanking both his supporters and acknowledging the media’s influence.
