Banking Facilities Spreading to Remote Areas Through Efforts of State Government
Approximately 14,000 People in 12 Villages Will Benefit from the Bank
Raipur, May 18, 2025/ People in the Jagargunda area of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, which has long been affected by the Naxal problem, will now also benefit from banking facilities. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today virtually inaugurated the Indian Overseas Bank branch in Jagargunda, Sukma from the Chief Minister’s residence. Approximately 14,000 villagers from around 12 villages will benefit from banking facilities through this branch of the bank.
Addressing the inauguration program via video conference, Chief Minister Shri Sai said that today is a historic day for the people of this area. This area has been affected by Naxalism for a long time. In the last one and a half years, we have succeeded in establishing peace in the Bastar region under our double engine government. This is the reason why a new branch of the bank has opened here. Benefits of schemes are reaching the people.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said on this occasion that the villages of the Bastar region are rapidly emerging from the Naxal problem and joining the mainstream of development due to the state government’s strategy of security, development and trust, continuous operations of the security forces, and the firm resolve of the central and state governments.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has guaranteed to provide banking facilities in all Gram Panchayats, on which action has been taken and 1460 Atal Panchayat Digital Service Centers have been started in 10-10 Gram Panchayats of each development block on the occasion of National Panchayat Day on April 24. Where villagers have started getting the benefit of banking facilities. This facility will be expanded to all Gram Panchayats in one year. The Chief Minister also gave detailed information about the Good Governance Festival to the villagers. Shri Sai said that he himself had visited the digital service centers during the Good Governance Festival to take stock of the arrangements. Villagers are taking advantage of banking facilities here.
Finance Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary said that when he was the collector in Dantewada, this area was heavily Naxal-affected. One had to think before going into the interior areas. In 2001, there was a branch of a rural bank in this building, which the Naxalites tried to loot. Today, a branch of Indian Overseas Bank is opening in the same building. From here, villagers will get the amount of many schemes like tendu leaf bonus, Kisan Samman Nidhi in the village itself.
Finance Minister Shri Choudhary inspected the cash counter and branch manager’s office in the bank premises and also opened his own account in the bank. Along with him, Ms. Deepika Sori, a member of the Women’s Commission, also opened her account in the bank. It is noteworthy that ATM facility has also been made available for the villagers along with the bank.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao was virtually connected in the inauguration program. On this occasion, Member of Chhattisgarh State Women’s Commission Ms. Deepika Sori, Collector Sukma Shri Devesh Kumar Dhruv, Zilla Panchayat CEO Smt. Namrata Jain and Regional Manager of the Bank Shri Gaurishankar Nayak were present in Jagargunda.
