A chilling crime in Korba, Chhattisgarh, on December 24, 2022, concluded with the sentencing of Sahban Khan to life imprisonment. The 30-year-old bus conductor from Ahmedabad was found guilty of murdering his 20-year-old girlfriend. The motive: suspicion of her infidelity. The horrific details revealed that he raped the victim before stabbing her 51 times in the chest with a screwdriver.
Khan’s journey began in Ahmedabad, from where he went to Jaipur and worked as a bus conductor. The victim was a student who regularly took his bus, and their relationship blossomed from there. The relationship soured when the woman started talking to another man. This incited Khan’s jealousy, prompting him to threaten her and her family, escalating the situation.
The accused meticulously planned the murder. He flew from Ahmedabad to Raipur and then to Korba. He stayed at a hotel before going to his girlfriend’s residence. A violent argument preceded the rape and the brutal stabbing. No one else was present at the time of the attack, and the woman died instantly.
The police investigation revealed a grim scene. The victim’s brother found her and alerted the authorities. Investigators recovered critical evidence from the scene: blood-soaked shoes, clothing, and a condom packet. The police utilized the cyber cell to aid in the investigation, leading to Khan’s arrest in Gujarat about a month and a half later. He confessed to the heinous crime during police questioning.
District Court Special Judge Jaideep Garg presided over the case, ultimately finding Khan guilty and imposing the life sentence. In addition to the imprisonment, he was ordered to pay a 75,000-rupee fine, with the consequence of an extra 18 months in prison should he fail to comply.
