Two minors drowned in the Khairun River within the Amleshwar police station jurisdiction. The event happened on Wednesday when a group of six friends were swimming. Sadly, two of the young individuals were caught in a strong current and a whirlpool. The SDRF team recovered the body of a 16-year-old minor on Thursday morning. The search for the other, a 15-year-old, is still in progress.
The deceased has been identified as Ashish Saroj. He, along with five friends from Jamraw village, had gone to the Khairun River for a swim. During their swim, Ashish and his friend Yashwant Harpal were swept away by the strong river flow. The remaining friends tried to alert people nearby, and the police were notified promptly. Despite their efforts, the rescue attempts proved unsuccessful.
The SDRF team performed a deep diving rescue operation overnight, continuing for eight hours, but were unable to locate the missing individuals. Early Thursday, deep diving experts Indrapal Yadav and Rajkumar Yadav managed to recover Ashish’s body from the river, after a two-hour search, and handed it over to the police. The search for Yashwant is still ongoing.
Ashish’s body has been sent to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the village and the families involved.
