Chhattisgarh’s anti-insurgency efforts have achieved a significant victory with the elimination of 18 Naxalites in a major encounter in the Bijapur district. The operation was initiated by security forces deep within the forests bordering Bijapur and Dantewada. Authorities confirmed the casualty count after a comprehensive assessment. A notable figure among the deceased is Modiyam Vella, a company commander of the PLGA, who was wanted for numerous attacks and carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh. Vella’s involvement in the 2020 Minpa ambush, which claimed the lives of 17 security personnel, has been a key focus for intelligence agencies. The recovery of advanced weaponry, including INSAS and AK-47 rifles, underscores the scale of the seized arsenal. The encounter also resulted in the tragic loss of three DRG personnel and injuries to two others. This year alone, security forces have neutralized 275 Naxalites across Chhattisgarh.
