In a significant counter-insurgency operation, Chhattisgarh security forces have eliminated 18 Naxalites in the Bijapur district. The encounter took place in a forested area near the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts, a region known for Naxalite presence. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb rebel activities in the state.
Following the intense firefight, security personnel recovered a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition. The seized items included INSAS and AK-47 rifles, indicating the rebels’ operational capacity. A high-value target, Modiyam Vella, a company commander with a reward of Rs 8 lakh, was among those neutralized. Vella had a history of involvement in serious violent incidents, including an ambush that claimed the lives of 17 security personnel.
The offensive, while successful in neutralizing a large number of insurgents, came at a heavy price. Three members of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed in action, and two others sustained injuries. This year, Chhattisgarh has witnessed a total of 275 Naxalite eliminations, alongside the tragic loss of 23 security personnel in anti-insurgency operations.
