In a decisive operation in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, security forces have successfully neutralized 18 Naxalites, marking a significant victory against Maoist insurgency. The encounter occurred in the remote forest areas along the Bijapur-Dantewada border, following a targeted anti-Naxal mission. Authorities confirmed the final count of 18 slain rebels after an initial 12, with the recovery of six more bodies. The security forces also seized a substantial cache of weapons, including sought-after INSAS and AK-47 rifles. A particularly significant neutralization was that of Modiyam Vella, an active commander within the PLGA’s company number 2. Vella, who carried an Rs 8 lakh reward, was linked to several fatal attacks, including the 2020 Minpa ambush that killed 17 security personnel. The operation resulted in the profound loss of three DRG personnel, with two others sustaining injuries. This year, security forces have eliminated 275 Naxalites across Chhattisgarh, with the Bastar region accounting for the majority. Sadly, 23 security personnel have also been martyred in ongoing anti-insurgency efforts in the state this year.
