Authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district have welcomed the surrender of 21 Maoist operatives, 13 of whom are women. This significant event, occurring on Sunday, involved the handover of 18 firearms, including sought-after weapons like AK-47s and INSAS rifles. The surrendered cadres, integral to the Keshkal Division’s lower and area committees, have opted for rehabilitation under the ‘Poona Margem’ initiative. The weapons surrendered included three AK-47s, two INSAS rifles, four SLR rifles, six .303 rifles, two single-shot rifles, and a Barrel Grenade Launcher. This series of surrenders in the Bastar region, following similar large-scale events earlier in October, points to the success of sustained police efforts in dismantling Maoist networks.
