Chandkhuri’s Kaushalya Dham, located near Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is set to receive a majestic upgrade with the installation of a new 51-foot-tall statue of Lord Ram. The location, revered as the maternal home of Lord Ram, will soon showcase the impressive artwork. The statue, meticulously crafted by Deepak Vishwakarma, a distinguished sculptor from Gwalior, and his team, is made from sandstone and has been fabricated in three sections. These sections will be transported via trailers and assembled on-site at Kaushalya Dham. To date, the project has involved expenses ranging from 72 to 74 lakh rupees.
Deepak Vishwakarma, the sculptor, shared that the project had faced a temporary delay due to payment-related matters, but the statue is now finalized and scheduled to reach Chhattisgarh within a week.
The Kaushalya Mata Temple in Chandkhuri stands out as the only temple in the nation to portray Mata Kaushalya cradling Lord Ram. This temple, dating back to the 10th century, is further distinguished by its picturesque setting.
During 2021, under the Congress administration, a 51-foot statue of Lord Ram was installed, which drew objections from BJP leaders regarding its design and facial features. Brijmohan Agrawal, then the Religious Affairs Minister in the BJP government, had announced plans for the new statue, which are now coming to fruition. The installation of the fresh statue is expected to elevate the charm of Kaushalya Dham.
