Three coal miners, two of them women, sustained injuries following a blast at the Chirmiri open cast mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh region on Monday. The explosion happened around 2-3 pm while a blasting gang was setting explosives for a routine operation. The blast occurred unexpectedly, causing rock fragments to hit workers and vehicles operating in the area. The injured were immediately taken to the SECL hospital in Kurasia for medical attention. They are reported to be stable and are expected to be discharged shortly. Officials suspect a technical error may have led to the premature detonation, but a formal investigation is now underway. This internal inquiry will scrutinize equipment, procedures, and potential human error. The mining site has been secured, and operations are on hold pending safety assessments. Efforts are being made to enhance safety measures and prevent similar accidents in the future.
