A 62-year-old professor, residing in the Purani Basti area, was victimized by cybercriminals who employed a digital arrest scam. The professor was contacted via phone and WhatsApp calls on June 20. Posing as Bengaluru police officials, the fraudsters falsely claimed his Aadhaar card was involved in illegal activities, creating a fabricated scenario of digital arrest. The professor, fearing the accusations, transferred 88 lakh rupees from his bank accounts. The police are currently examining the professor’s bank accounts and call details.
