The state of Chhattisgarh is preparing for a change in weather, with rain expected in many areas today. Raipur, the capital city, has already seen cloudy skies and light showers. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms in central and southern Chhattisgarh.
Multiple districts are under alert due to the expected weather conditions. An orange alert has been issued for Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Bemetara, Mungeli, Surguja, Surajpur, Korea, and Balrampur, indicating a high likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds (30-40 kmph), and moderate rainfall. A yellow alert has been issued for Sukma, Bijapur, South Bastar Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, North Bastar Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Korba, Jashpur, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Durg, Bemetara, Kabirdham, Mungeli, Surguja, Surajpur, Korea, and Balrampur, where moderate rainfall is anticipated.
A low-pressure area is currently situated over the coastal regions of Gangetic West Bengal, North Odisha, and the northwestern Bay of Bengal. This system is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 kilometers in altitude, expected to weaken in the next 24 hours. Two troughs are also contributing to the weather pattern; one stretching from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana at 1.5-3.1 kilometers, and the second extending from Gangetic West Bengal to the southern Maharashtra coast via Odisha, South Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka, reaching altitudes of 4.5-5.8 kilometers.
These weather systems are predicted to bring light to moderate rainfall or scattered thundershowers across the state today. Certain areas may experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. The primary region expected to receive rain today is central Chhattisgarh.
Furthermore, a new low-pressure area is forecasted to develop over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent central Bay of Bengal on September 25. This system is expected to move westward and could intensify into a depression, potentially reaching the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coast around September 27. This could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Bastar division and surrounding districts starting September 26.
