The Sikh community’s history is a testament to their valor and dedication. Their contributions have been critical throughout various periods, from the Mughal era to modern conflicts and humanitarian efforts. Despite being a minority, their participation has been unparalleled in times of need.
At the heart of this history is Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru. He opposed the religious intolerance of Aurangzeb to protect religious freedom. He was arrested and brought to Delhi with his followers, where they were martyred. Gurudwaras in Delhi commemorate this sacrifice.
To commemorate the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom, a journey is underway, commencing in Assam and arriving in Raipur. A significant welcome is planned near Cheri Kheri Hotel Punjab Bistro. The event will feature large welcome gates and stages. The main stage will host important political and community figures, while another stage will be dedicated to Sikh leaders and Gurudwara management.
The welcome will be coordinated by the 18 Gurudwara committees in Raipur. Preparations include LED screens displaying historical information and the playing of Gurbani Kirtan along the route.
The Nagar Kirtan procession will begin near the Ram Temple, comprising a large procession with volunteers and the Guru Granth Sahib. A special bus will display historical artifacts.
Over 30 stages will be set up for the event, offering a platform for various groups to show their respects. The journey will traverse key locations in Raipur, culminating at the Tatibandh Gurudwara. The journey will then continue to Gondia (Maharashtra).
Extensive preparations have been made by the State Minority Commission and Sikh leaders. This was communicated through a press conference.
