A new regulation mandates that ration distribution is now dependent on an OTP sent to a beneficiary’s mobile phone. This replaces the thumb impression method. The state government is currently distributing rice for the months of June, July, and August together, starting June 1st. Beneficiaries are now facing challenges because they need to have their mobile phones linked to their Aadhaar cards to receive their ration. Those without a linked mobile phone are having to make calls to obtain the OTP from home, which is causing delays. Long lines have been observed at public service centers where people are attempting to link their mobile numbers to their Aadhaar cards to comply with the new rule.
