A concerning outbreak of Tomato Flu is rapidly spreading in the Bilaspur district. The illness primarily affects children, with a significant number of cases reported among those aged nine months to seven years. Common symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, red rashes on the hands, feet, and back, along with mouth ulcers. Hospitals, both public and private, are seeing a daily increase in the number of parents seeking medical care for their children.
Dr. Lakhan Singh, the hospital superintendent, indicated an increase in flu cases but noted that not all have been confirmed as Tomato Flu. Tomato Flu is a self-limiting illness, meaning it usually resolves on its own within a short period. Despite this, standard medical treatments and rest are recommended to ease symptoms. Experts advise parents to seek immediate medical help for children experiencing severe discomfort. Schools are identified as areas where the disease is spreading among children. School officials and teachers are recommending that parents keep children home if they show any symptoms. Doctors suggest keeping children away from school for a minimum of 7 to 10 days to ensure full recovery before returning.
The name Tomato Flu originates from the distinctive red, tomato-like rashes that develop on the skin of infected children. This viral infection is highly contagious, particularly among young children. Parents are advised to emphasize hygiene and carefully monitor their children’s diet to prevent the spread of the disease. While the disease is generally not life-threatening, vigilance is crucial to minimize the risk of transmission. Children should avoid crowded environments, and medical attention should be sought immediately if symptoms are present. Healthcare professionals also recommend rest at home for any type of viral infection.
