Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district has witnessed a significant crackdown on Maoist activities, with 50 Naxal operatives choosing to surrender. The group comprised 32 women, highlighting the participation of females in the Naxal movement and their subsequent departure. The surrender occurred under the supervision of the Border Security Force at their Kamtera camp, where 39 firearms were also deposited.
This operation is being hailed as a major breakthrough for security forces, dealing a considerable blow to the Naxal hierarchy and their operational base in the Maad region. The surrendered group included several influential leaders and operatives at various levels, signaling a potential erosion of morale within the remaining cadres. Officials are actively promoting rehabilitation programs to encourage more Naxal members to abandon the armed struggle. This initial wave of surrenders from the northern Maad area is expected to be followed by a larger group in the Bijapur district soon, indicating a growing trend of disillusioned cadres seeking a peaceful life.
